UK Bans "Turbo" Spins & Sets 5-Second Slot Rule
UK Bans "Turbo" Spins, Forces 5-Second Slot Rule

Big changes are coming to UK online slots. The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced new rules, effective in 2025, that will permanently change how you play.
The main goal is to make gambling safer by slowing down the speed of play. Here’s what you need to know.
- 9 Apr 2025: £5 max per spin for ages 25+
- 21 May 2025: £2 max per spin for ages 18–24

The New 2025 UK Slot Rules:
- 5-Second Spin Minimum: The most significant change. Every single spin you make must last at least 5 seconds. This is the end of "speed-running" a slot.
- "Turbo" & "Slam Stop" Banned: All buttons or features that speed up the game, like "turbo" or "fast play," are now banned. You also can't hit the button again to stop the reels instantly.
- New Stake Limits: The maximum bet per spin will be £5 for players 25 and over. For players 18-24, the limit is a stricter £2 per spin.
- "Autoplay" is Banned: The feature that lets the game spin for you is also being removed. You must now click the "spin" button for every bet.
Why This Is Happening (The Player Angle)
The UKGC believes features like "turbo spins" can be "intensive" and lead to players losing track of time and money.
For you, the player, this means:
- Your sessions will be slower.
- Your bankroll will likely last much longer.
- It will be harder to "zone out" while playing.
These rules only apply to UK-licensed casinos, but they are a massive step in player protection.
A Note on Responsible Gambling
This is a move that prioritizes player safety over speed, which we see as a positive step for responsible gambling. If you ever feel like your gambling is becoming a problem, please visit our resource page for help.
What About Your Bonus?
One important note: Because spins are slower, clearing a bonus will take more time. Always check the wagering requirements and the time limit on any bonus offer to make sure you have enough time to clear it.
